Items not purchased through Authorised Suzuki Resellers are referred to as ‘Grey’. Grey Market items are predominantly sold on the internet where it is difficult for the buyer to properly inspect the item.

Haines Suzuki Marine is the only Australian authorised distributor of Suzuki outboard motors. Suzuki Marine Australia receive a substantial number of phone calls from those who have purchased Grey Market items, who have experienced problems due to the many unknowns associated with these products. The standards of storage and transport are highly questionable, and there is also the possibility that the item is refurbished. Products not purchased through one of our Authorised Suzuki Resellers cannot be covered by our Australian Warranty and we cannot provide free technical support or warranty repair to purchasers of these engines.

One of the most important of the below points is that the motors that we sell are C-Tick compliant and labelled as such, and therefore meet the standard as required by Australian law. Unfortunately, we have noticed the recent importation of Suzuki outboard motors by private importers or grey importers. Unless you see the C-Tick label on the motor, then you cannot be sure that the motor is C-Tick compliant with Australian law and this may be a problem for you if you make an insurance claim. You should make your own investigations with your insurer, if you feel necessary.

Suzuki vs Grey

Besides the functionality and specifications of a outboard, another deciding factor is of course the price. Grey market items are relatively cheaper when compared to a Suzuki outboard purchased through the right channel, this is due to exchange rates and other economic factors such as holding excess stock. Yet what are the disadvantages of purchasing a cheaper product?

The list below compares the benefits of a Suzuki outboard versus an outboard purchased through the grey channel:

SUZUKI

Our products comply with Australian standards The manual in the package will be in English. Users are able to register their product through their dealer with Haines Suzuki Marine. During the warranty period, any warrantable repairs will be free of charge, provided the outboard was bought in the same country as where it is warrantable. Registered owners of warranties with Haines Suzuki Marine are contacted if there is a factory recall of a part or update. The small fix often improves your outboards performance or stops a larger problem occurring. You will get the product you pay for. Suzuki imported engines comply with C-Tick standards regarding the Australian Electronic Interference Standard.

GREY

Items may not meet mandatory safety and certification codes, or may not have been handled properly in transit, therefore they may malfunction. The manual may not be in the preferred language of your region. Motors registered for warranty overseas rarely receive warranty or the right level of service from that country. Certain dealers selling grey items may not be able to provide technical support as well. Also due to Geography they cannot service or repair your outboard unless you freight it back to them. Grey imports are not registered on the Australian system for factory back up so these motors slip through the net. The exporter often goes very quiet if things go wrong. Imported engines without the C-Tick standard may be held in bond. You may not get the product you pay for. It could be second hand, it could be counter rotating, it could be a previous years model. Under Australian law a “Grey” importer is solely responsible for all warranty. The manual in foreign countries may specify an incorrect oil for Australian /NZ operating conditions.

What is “Grey Market”?

Generally, a manufacturer works with a single importer who can sell and support their products in a given region. The importer usually has local dealers and distributors who resell the imported products; this is called a “distribution channel”. Grey Market refers to merchandise that is imported and sold by methods other than these normal channels.

For local safety regulations and certifications and government requirements a manufacturer provides special packaging (manuals in the appropriate language, emissions standards, electrical system compatibility etc.) and product engineering designed to meet local codes. Manufacturers also have service and support agreements with the authorised importer.

Grey Market items are not designed to be sold in a particular market and cannot be supported by the authorised importer because they may not meet mandatory safety and certification codes. Because these items are not designed for a particular market they may not function properly, or the authorised importer may not be equipped to provide service, support or software.

With the opening of international borders and the use of the Internet to sell goods, Grey Market outboards are becoming incresingly common in the marine industry. Many different types of equipment are brought into the country for sale by unauthorized dealers without the proper documentation and many consumers do not always know what they are purchasing.

Because the resellers’ costs are less they can sell Grey Market items for less. Unfortunately this price saving is only on the initial purchase; because service and support is more difficult to obtain it may end up costing the consumer more in the long run.

How do I know if my Suzuki product is “Grey Market”?

If the deal was just too good to be true, it probably was. One of the first indicators that a piece of Suzuki merchandise might be Grey Market is if the price is considerably less than most other dealers.

Additionally, a genuine Suzuki product will include an Owners’ Manual and Warranty Registration card in English. A warranty card that does not state “Suzuki Australia” can be identified as Grey.

What does owning a “Grey Market” Suzuki product mean to you?

Suzuki Australia cannot provide any warranty support on Grey Market items. Please do not contact Suzuki Australia for help with any Grey Market products. Please contact the reseller or importer of your Grey Market items for warranty. However, Suzuki Australia are still able to perform paid for service and repair work on Grey Market items if necessary.

• U.V. specific formula available, recommended for outdoor use.

Permanent and water tight as long as you want it to be but removes completely and without mess from most non-porous surfaces. Occasionally, you may need custom colours, custom formulations and technical support. Our staff is ready to help.

Plasti Dip is available in 214ml, 429ml, 651ml containers and in 311 gram aerosol cans. Larger Sizes: 3.78 litre and 18.9 litre and (189 litre to order only) in standard Plasti Dip Colours or can be tinted if required.

UV, Fluorescent and Glow in the Dark Formulas are also available. 651 ml. Plasti Dip Clear! This new package utilizes the same redesigned container as the Create Your Colour Kit and can be used on its own as a clear dip coating or can be tinted with our Tints-All colourants, or you can use the Create your Colour Kit.

Extra years Warranty on new release DF100A, DF115A and DF140A outboard models Suzuki Marine which currently offers a five-year standard warranty on 40hp to 300hp engines will be the first outboard company to offer an extra one year outboard motor warranty in Australia and New Zealand on three of their newly released four-stroke models from March 1 to May 31, 2013.

The 5+1 year warranty offer will only be available on the new DF140A, DF115A and DF100A models, purchased from participating SuzukiMarine dealers between March 1 and May 31, 2013, while stocks last.

To secure the 5+1 year warranty, customers must ensure their Suzuki motor is serviced through a genuine Suzuki Marine dealer using genuine Suzuki Marine spare parts.

Introduced in late 2012, the DF100A, DF115A and DF140A are significantly re-engineered motors that offer several benefits over earlier models and current competitor offerings, says the importer.

Suzuki says the new DF140A engine for example uses up to14 per cent less fuel and is 7kg lighter than it’s predecessor (already Suzuki Marine’s biggest selling engine) making for improved fuel-efficiency. All three motors swing a larger propeller providing a larger displacement of water.

In addition, all three employ the Easy Start Control System and Suzuki Lean Burn Control System to push a boat further through the water with less effort.

The re-engineered outboards are based on a proven marine-specific 2044cc four-cylinder motor and feature a 16-valve DOHC cylinder head that delivers high power output and efficient operation. They all have multi point sequential EFI for smoother and faster acceleration and crisp throttle response.

All motors feature a newly-designed cowl incorporating form and function by providing stylish looks with higher airflow and maximum cooling performance for the engine.
